Your lawn is your own private piece of planet earth. This is a big reason why many people have meticulously kept gardens and perfectly cut lawns. Grass needs to regularly mowed (depending on the variety and climate sometimes every week.) So it's no surprised that some people become affectionately attached to their lawn mowers. The intense work done by the machine though leads to wear and tear. Even a well built lawn mower will break down after several years of heavy usage. Fortunately, it is quite easy to find and buy replacement parts (especially for the major brands.)
Many people though are taken aback by how expensive parts from the manufacturer are. Just as official car parts are more pricey, mower companies use their replacement parts business as a cash cow. Fortunately for those looking to save money, a generic parts industry exists. Which should you choose?
It must be said that using non-official replacement parts voids the vast majority of warranties. This alone is reason enough for many people to buy "genuine". And if your lawn mower is high-end and pricey, it might make sense to just pay the extra money. You will also get peace of mind as you won't have to worry about a low-quality part ruining your machine. It is also more convenient as well, as you can usually just buy it from the dealer that sold you your machine.
Some replacement parts are very expensive (especially those having to do with the engine). A generic version will often cost a fraction of what an official one does so you can save a good amount of cash. Definitely talk to store personnel to get an opinion on the reliability.
